Emergency Water Extraction

Rapid emergency water extraction across the GTA — portable extractors, immediate response, and full documentation for insurance.

About Emergency Water Extraction

Emergency water extraction is the first — and most time-sensitive — phase of any water damage restoration. From the moment water hits your floor, materials begin to absorb it: carpet in minutes, drywall in an hour, subfloor and framing within a day. The longer water sits, the more material has to be removed instead of dried, and the higher the total cost and disruption of the job.

Val Restoration Group's emergency water extraction service is designed to compress that timeline. Our GTA crews respond quickly with portable extractors capable of removing hundreds of litres of standing water per hour, immediately followed by moisture mapping so we know precisely what has been affected and can build a drying plan on the spot.

Whether the source is a burst supply line, a sump pump failure, an appliance overflow, or overland flooding after a storm, this page explains what proper emergency extraction looks like, the equipment we use, and how our documentation supports your insurance claim from the first hour.

What's included

  • Portable extractors
  • Fast local dispatch
  • Immediate moisture mapping
  • Claim-ready documentation

Common causes

  • Burst supply lines and pinhole leaks in copper or PEX
  • Sump pump failure during spring melt or summer storms
  • Failed appliance supply hoses (washing machine, dishwasher, fridge)
  • Water heater tank failures
  • Overflowing toilets or blocked drains
  • Overland flooding after severe rainfall
  • Firefighting water intrusion after a small fire event

Warning signs to watch for

  • Standing water on floors or carpet
  • Water audibly running behind a wall or ceiling
  • Sagging or discoloured ceilings on the floor below a leak
  • Water lines along baseboards or lower drywall
  • Squishy or waterlogged carpet
  • Sudden loss of water pressure in the house
  • Water actively entering through basement walls or windows

Why act quickly

Risks of leaving it untreated

Small problems escalate fast. Here's what's on the line when a emergency water extraction issue is ignored.

Structural saturation of subfloor, framing and drywall within hours

Mold colonization on wet materials within 24–48 hours

Warping and buckling of hardwood and laminate flooring

Electrical hazards where water contacts outlets, panels or wiring

Category creep — clean-water events becoming category-2 or -3 as they sit

Loss of belongings that could have been salvaged with faster extraction

Our Process

From inspection to full resolution

A clear, proven sequence — so you always know exactly what's happening next.

  1. 01

    Emergency call & dispatch

You reach a real person on our emergency line. We confirm the source, entry safety and equipment needed, and dispatch the nearest crew immediately.

  2. 02

    Safety & source control

We confirm the main water shutoff is closed, verify electrical safety, and photograph pre-work conditions for your claim file.

  3. 03

    Extraction

Portable extractors pull standing water from concrete, carpet, pad and subfloor cavities in a fraction of the time a shop vac would take.

  4. 04

    Moisture mapping

Thermal imaging and moisture meters map every affected material — visible and hidden — so nothing is missed and the drying plan is based on facts, not guesses.

  5. 05

    Drying setup

Air movers and LGR dehumidifiers are staged based on affected square footage and material type, so structural drying starts within hours of arrival.

  6. 06

    Handover to mitigation

Extraction transitions directly into full mitigation (drying, sanitizing, rebuild) with the same team — no gap and no second contractor to onboard.

Equipment & Technology

Professional-grade tools for professional results

We invest in commercial equipment because emergency water extraction done right depends on the right technology in the right hands.

Portable extractors

Reach upper floors, tight spaces and areas the extractor hose can't access.

Weighted extraction tools

Pull water out of carpet and pad in place, saving many carpets that would otherwise be removed.

Thermal imaging cameras (FLIR)

Show cold, moisture-laden zones behind drywall and under flooring without invasive cutting.

Pin and pinless moisture meters

Give precise moisture readings across every affected material so nothing is missed.

LGR dehumidifiers & air movers

Staged during extraction so structural drying starts the same visit — not the next day.

HEPA air scrubbers

Deployed when the water is category-2 or -3, or when air quality is a concern during extraction.

Insurance

We work with your insurance

Emergency water extraction is typically covered under any water-damage claim your policy already covers — burst pipe, appliance failure, sudden and accidental events. Our documentation captures the source, category, affected materials and equipment used, so your adjuster has a clear picture of the emergency response.

For sewer backup or overland flood, coverage depends on whether you have the specific endorsement. We provide honest guidance and complete documentation either way, and can bill directly to most Ontario carriers so you're not out of pocket up front.

Frequently asked questions

Emergency Water Extraction FAQs

How fast can you get to an emergency in the GTA?

Most emergency calls are dispatched within 60–90 minutes across Aurora, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Markham and surrounding areas, depending on traffic and current job load.

Is emergency extraction the same as full water damage restoration?

Extraction is the first phase. Full restoration includes structural drying, sanitizing and rebuild. We handle all phases with the same team.

Do I need to move belongings before you arrive?

No. If anything is at immediate risk of damage, move it to a dry area if you can safely do so — otherwise leave it and we'll handle content moves during our pack-out step.

Should I use my shop vac while I wait?

Only if it's a wet-dry vacuum and you can do it safely. Portable extractors pull water hundreds of times faster, and a shop vac won't reach subfloor cavities where the real damage happens.

Do you extract water from finished basements?

Yes — carpet, pad, vinyl, laminate, hardwood, tile, concrete. We extract from all of them, then dry-in-place where possible.

What if the water is dirty or contains sewage?

We deploy category-2 or category-3 protocols with full PPE, dedicated extractors and negative-air containment. Never mixed with clean-water equipment.

Will insurance cover the emergency extraction?

In most cases yes — extraction is part of the same claim as the water event. We document everything so your adjuster has a clear picture.

Is the initial inspection free?

Yes — emergency inspections are free of charge across our GTA service area.

What areas do you serve?

Aurora, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Markham, Vaughan, King City, Stouffville, East Gwillimbury, Bradford, North York and surrounding communities.
